Dowtcha Puppets. Unit R2, Marina Commercial Park, Centre Park Road, Cork

Dowtcha Puppets Youth Ensemble enrolling new members for 2017.

The Dowtcha Puppets Youth Ensemble is a free initiative for young people between the ages of 12-23.
The ensemble began in 2016 and produced a puppet show called ‘The Underwater Shoes’ that was performed at the Cork Puppetry festival and the Electric Picnic.

In 2017 the Ensemble will perform alongside Dowtcha in the St Patrick’s Day parade!

In preparation Dowtcha will be running Promenade Performance workshops, (every Saturday at 12noon) with the ensemble from the 4th of February to the 11th of March.
During these workshops Dowtcha will be welcoming new members to the ensemble; so if you’ve ever wondered how to animate a puppet or perform in front of a crowd, now is the time to find out!

To apply for a free place in the workshops, or to find out more about the ensemble please contact Dowtcha at or 021 4322580

Please note that spaces in the ensemble are limited and are available on first come first serve basis.

About the Workshops:

Workshop title: Promenade Performance

Over the course of these 6 workshops we will cover:

  • Working with giant puppets and learning how to animate them.
  • Street theatre and how to be comfortable performing in front of a crowd.
  • Characterization: developing a character and bringing it to life.
  • Improvisation: learning how to be present and to trust your instincts.
  • Choreography: designing some short sequences of movements together as part of an ensemble
  • The end result is to take part in one of Dowtcha’s St Patrick’s Day Pageants in either Cork or Dublin as a street performer, or puppeteer.
